1337 5p34k

  • Mood: Informative
  • Music: TV and co-workers talking
"1337 5p34k" (leet speak) -- basically, use numbers and other alphanumeric characters and symbols instead of letters.  Usually found in chatrooms of 13 yr olds.

I use it because not many people can read it right off.   At work, I posted "P3N15" and no one knew what it meant, save for a few nerds who didn't say anything.

A list of letter and the corresponding number:

Note: Capital letters are the same a lower case.

A -- 4

B -- 8

C -- (

D -- |)

E -- 3

F --

G -- 6, 9

H -- |-|

I -- 1, l

J --

K -- |<

L -- 1, l

M -- /\/\

N -- |\|

O -- 0

P --

Q --

R -- |2

S -- 5, 2

T -- 7

U -- |_|

V -- \/

W -- \/\/

X -- ><

Y --

Z -- 2

Note that I and L are the same. To find out whether the word has an "I" or an "L", just translate the word.

I know I have missed some letters. I have either never seen their 1337 counterpart, or don't remember how it's typed.

This is just what I have seen in chatrooms when I was on IRC and various places on the 'net.

I will almost never type anything in 1337, so don't worry.

In Case of Emergency (ICE)

From a friends' Livejournal:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/janeylou/

As Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator, I get quite a few updates and e-mails from the local police. This has actually been well publicised (but not well enough in my opinion) so check this out, do it, save the Emergency Services some precious time. It's so simple, I dunno why it hasn't been made law!

This is a direct quote from the correspondence:

Following the disaster in London . . .

East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston.

The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do.

Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.

May I suggest that anyone reading this copies and pastes it (or links here) so that the word can be spread. Let's try to get this worldwide if we can. Anything that saves the Emergency Services, whatever nationality, time.

I deleted the most recent entry in my Tag Board.

Please be mature...I don't mind stuff like "p3n15!!!!1111!!111oneoneexclamationmark" every so often....but this:

63.164.145.85
FUCK NUMA!!!!! SHUT THAT FUCKIN NUMA UP!: PORN, ONLINE PIMPING, ILLEGAL STUFF.......and the list goes on. This stuff is more fun then that stupid NUMA! Looking for and trapping naive women for pics and stuff; Dave West pays big bucks for this; pimp rakes all the money in; naive women get nothing except false esteem..... RAINBLOW and most other try and delete or suspend those journals and forums when they find that stuff.

Real mature. Numa Numa is more mature than this entry. And you know the drill with any message board, or policy in the work place; if this continues, I will remove the Tag Board.
